Call Out for Some Help

Today is the final day for voting, so this post will be the last you hear of this. 🙂

2 Dec 2014 Update: Dark Echoes won! Thank you for your support!

In another life, I am not The Author or Nyx – I am an author. (If you’re curious about that stuff, I have an author blog.) I try to keep my zine life and my author life somewhat separate for the sake of my sanity aka organisation. But there is a bit of crossover needed on some occasions.

This is one of those times.

My third novel, Dark Echoes, has been been nominated by AusRomToday for the Cover of the Year Award. I’m very excited to have made it through the nomination round to be one of the ten finalists in the category.

This final round of voting is now up to the public and will be determined by the cover that gets the greatest amount of likes. There’s no signing up for anything, needing to like a page – it’s looking at the ten contestants and giving a like to the cover you think is the best of the lot. If you click the graphic at the top of this post, it’ll take you to the album. Click on the cover you like and then give the one you like the best a like.

It’s that easy.

There are a lot of great covers there, so definitely check everyone out. I do think, though, that Dark Echoes is in with a chance.

If I do win, it won’t be me alone winning. The business I get my covers from – Cohesion – is a small, local business on the way up. The cover designer himself (who works with Cohesion) is from the UK (and is amazing).

If, for some reason, clicking on the image doesn’t work, here is the direct link to the album where you can like to vote:

Many, many thanks from a self-publisher who dreams of success.

And Now for Something Completely Different

Don’t Call Me Cupcake – My First Perzine!

20141026_150329

It’s finished! My very first perzine – Don’t Call Me Cupcake – is finished, and it’s available on Etsy!

20141026_150342

20141026_150400

This issue focuses mostly on mental health stuff – my long road to finding a therapist I like, being in ‘bipolar denial’ for years, art therapy and so on. But I have a couple other things in there too, like how to get in touch plus a zine review!

Please check it out and let me know what you think. I want this to be the first of many.

Zine Ninja Approves – SGZ on Etsy!

20141003_174054

Zine Ninja approves of all the Sea Green Zines.

I am happy to announce that all Sea Green Zines (Dear Anonymous 1 & 2, Occupy Melbourne, The Perfect Pocket Guinness Guide) are now available on the InkyBlots Etsy Store.

Woohoo!

A special note: I’ve printed off 40 copies of Occupy Melbourne… and those are the last 40 copies that will be printed.

Yep, I am retiring one of my zines. I might be retiring the Guinness mini-zine as well, but I’m undecided at the moment. So if you’d like any of these, now you know where you can get them.

The Best Intentions & Zine Reviews

Despite my best intentions, balance is not something I have yet achieved in my life. While I’m proud to be self-published, to have started a new small craft business, to be a student, and to be a ‘mum’ to sixteen beautiful little puppies, everything is taking quite a toll.

I love zines. I love making them and reading them. But my life hasn’t afforded me the time to pursue either. I am a firm believer in that you will never ‘find’ time; you must make it. So while it is completely up to me to carve out the time for zines.

I feel sadder just typing that.

However, my intentions remain the same, and at least there is that. I intend to make SeaGreenZines into much more than it is now. For the time being, that means that I will be taking reviews that I have posted here and will be posting them up on Sundays at HotAuthorReport.com. It’s another one of my pet projects that I should have waited longer to start, but there it is.

If you’d ever like to be a guest there to show off your creative work (zines, books, music, short films, clothing line, paintings, etc) and/or would like an extra shout out for your work/crowdsourcing effort/etc, feel free to contact me.

LONE WOLF

Lily Peterson is a wolf who hunts alone. Haunted by the attack that left her best friend permanently human, she will do whatever it takes to catch her prey.

FATE

Jason North is one of the Neuri, a pack of werewolves with special abilities. He knows he’s never met Lily before, but his instincts tell him he has. He’ll keep her close until he figures out why.

EVERYBODY LIES

A war that has played out across lifetimes threatens to consume Echo Falls. Friends become enemies, and old enemies become allies. Lily fights against memories that aren’t hers, forced toward a fate she doesn’t believe in.

Fate is about to learn that Lily doesn’t like being told what to do.

Help Bring A Novel to Life!

I have survived abuse, moved across the world at 20 with nothing but a laptop and a carry bag, lost various non-vital organs… and yet, asking for help is still one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I’d always rather give to others and support others than ask for anything of the like in return. But we can’t always avoid the hard things, so here I go…

Dark Echoes is my third novel and, by far (over 15,000 words), my biggest novel. I don’t earn enough personally or from previous novels to be able to support the publication process (or price). This is where I ask you for help. Donate, share the link, like the link… Please help me to spread the word and raise enough money to publish this novel.

Helping isn’t just about money. I am incredibly grateful to anyone who likes and/or shares my project. No matter how you have contributed, consider me in your debt. Call on me when you think there is something I can do to help you out. Please feel free to let me know what you’ve done/where you’ve shared the link/etc. Believe me, I will remember your kindness.

Thanks in advance for even reading this. My dream – my big dream – is to make enough so I can run around and start playing fairy awesome-mother to other creative people who are in need. I’ll do what I can now if there is anything that you’d like to spread the word about. Please let me know.

Give and give alike! Thank you.
