Teach someone about zines

I’m going to be a bit cheeky for this one today, I’m afraid. I don’t really have anyone to teach about zines today as I’ve already poked and prodded nearly everyone I know about zines already. Hahaha. I do also like to think of Sea Green Zines as a place with more than a few zine resources for anyone learning.

However, I will say that if there’s anything you would like to see me cover that is zine-related, please don’t feel shy about letting me know. I’m happy for suggestions and, if there’s something I’m not familiar with, then I’ll do my best to find someone who is more knowledgeable.

Hello, zine friends! Anyone else get out of bed still sleepy this morning? I had a think about sleeping in, but my poor dog Zenna was panting at the bedroom door (something she does when she needs a cuddle as well as when she’s just warm), so out of bed I sprang. Haha. I’ve been yawning all day. However, I did get things done.

Work on your work in progress

My work in progress this week wasn’t specifically on zines, but it was zine related. I had a huge stack of mail (as featured in my Happy Mail Monday video) to get all organised and ready to go, and that’s what I’ve been working on today.

I don’t have a picture for you, as I’ve been packing away things in my mail tote as they were ready to send, and I’d rather not get it all out. Haha. I’m that level of tired. I’m pretty happy, though, because a lot of people will be getting happy mail soon (crossing fingers before Christmas!).

Read zines! Refill your creative well

Refilling the creative well is a term that means taking the time to find what inspires you. To take joy in the inspirations you already have in your life.

In today’s world, there’s so much about ‘produce, produce, produce’. That’s why it’s more important than ever to find creativity in any and all ways you can. But just as important as creating things is encouraging, finding, and embracing what inspires us to do them in the first place.

Today – well, this evening – I’m settling down to read some zines. That’s one way I like filling my creative well. But you don’t necessarily have to read zines today. Perhaps you find museums inspiring. Or cafes (never mind those people who snort and call it a stereotype). Or perhaps doodling while chatting with a friend is just your cup of tea.

Whatever helps fill your creative well, enjoy it with no guilt and no thoughts about what you ‘should’ be doing. Enjoy, take it all in, and have a wonderful day.

Make a Zine: Make a double-sided zine

Haha! I actually really like how this one turned out. A GTT is a glucose tolerance test and usually means you’re stuck at the clinic for two hours or so. And they make you drink this nasty glucose concoction as well. I have these tests more often than I would like thanks to my PCOS, and I actually had one recently. When I saw today’s prompt, the idea for the zine popped right into my head.

Talk about making something good out of a grumpy situation.

Hello, zine friends! This month just keeps flying by, doesn’t it? Haha. I’ve spent the day finishing up a few zine projects and doing a lot – A LOT – of printing, folding, and sewing. Funnily enough, that rounded up quite nicely with today’s prompts because I needed zine-making fuel.

Sharing is Caring: What are your snacks of choice?

Tom and Luke Snackaballs may have a funny name, but they hit the spot when I want something sweet and reasonably healthy. I say reasonably because I could easily eat a whole bag if I let myself, and that’s not so good even if what you’re eating is only made of dates, cashews, and coconut. (That’s just one of the flavours, by the way.)

Anyway, I’m not going to turn this into an ad for Tom and Luke, but I’d give them a go if you want something sweet but don’t want added sugars.

Hello, zine friends! I don’t know about you, but we had an absolutely gorgeous sunny day here totally perfect for doing some zinemaking in the sunshine. So good. I hope your weekend has jumped to a good start and that the universe is treating you kindly. Today, I think the universe was reminding me to finish what I start.

24 Hour Zine Day: Make a mini or a full 24-page zine in 24 hours

I decided to take today’s prompt and use it to finish the three mini-zines I’d started yesterday. I did think about the full 24-page zine in 24 hours, but I decided it would feel better to get the triplets (haha) sorted – and it did. As much as I love the excitement of starting a project, the feeling of finishing a project is lovely, too.

Hello and happy Friday, zine friends! I hope this week has treated you well. Though if most of my friends’ lives are to go by, then everyone has had a very, very busy week! In that event, I hope you get a good, restful relax time very soon.

Make a zine: Get prompts for what to put in your zine from friends and strangers

I asked for zine prompts on Instagram and received three responses from Latibule, Miss Muffcake, and Natalie Michelle Watson. Rather than three pages in one mini-zine, I decided to make three mini-zines.

I love the idea of getting prompts from other people. Unfortunately, I didn’t think it through before I got started and bit off more I can chew. I didn’t quite finish any of them, so no peeks inside just yet. Thank you so much for the prompts, Latibule, Miss Muffcake, and Natalie!
