It’s Thursday?!

So, it’s Thursday. I thought it was only Tuesday.

Oops.

I’m my defense, I am rocking ear infections by sporting two at once, and I did sleep almost an entire day away. BUT I have been getting stuff done. Like some letter art!

I don’t do a lot of this kind of lettering because it takes quite a bit of time (for me). Still, I love doing it.

I do have a zine all loved up – I mean, read – and ready to review. I will get that up tonight (my time, you sexy northern hemisphere-ers, you) or tomorrow.

Cheers!

Rainy Days

2015-07-13 16.20.49

It’s a rainy day Down Under – perfect for sorting out mail stuff. I’ve been sewing up some copies of Dear Anonymous 3 (I ran out!) for some zine packs I’m sending out. Days 9 and 10 of International Zine Month 2015 call for sending out zine-related mail, so here I am.

On another note: have you ever wanted to be on a trading card? Billy Da Bunny has sent a shout out to the zine community because he’s making trading cards! Of us! How awesome is that? Check out this thread on WMZ to get some more details. I’ve already sent him all my stuff because the idea of being on a trading card is awesome.

International Zine Month (July!) 2015!

It’s that time again!

I say again, but this is really my first IZM insofar as actually participating and such. I have no idea what my participation is going to look like, as I’d really like to wrap up the first draft of my fourth novel by the end of the month. Ah, well. I’m a seat-of-my-pants kind of woman anyway. If you’re like me and want some ideas, Stolen Sharpie Revolution has something for you to do every day of the month! Whee!

My Head Hurts

I knew this week was going to be hard thanks to our dogs being kicked off the property for two days (while a new back fence was installed), a rental inspection, and a to-do list long enough to rival super-big toilet paper rolls.

Yet my expectations weren’t quite large enough, and I’m sitting here on a Friday night feeling sorry for myself and grumpy because I didn’t get any reviews up this week. Sigh.

So here’s something funny. It simply won’t do to be self-pitying for long.

A Weary, Dreary Day

Rainy Leaves

Alas, no happy mail for this mail-obsessed zine lady this week, but I did buy some international stamps so I could get some letters going out into the world. I really do love postal mail. It allows me to connect to people in a way that is comfortable for me.

Tricky, Tricky…

The lack of a review yesterday (and so far today) is not actually my fault this round. Really. I’m so flustered, I feel the need to express myself with fewer words and more memes.

I was getting an error every time I tried to look at this site. I was very:

angry

I tried everything I could think of, which is something but not a heck of a lot. I still ended up thinking:

I did a lot of Googling, and nothing I could find could really hit the spot for helping me to address the problem.

After even more Googling and testing various solutions, I was at a point where…

I cleared my cache and FINALLY the site started working again. Sort of. If you type in seagreenzines.com, it works. If you type in www.seagreenzines.com, it doesn’t work.

So that’s where I am. That and deciding to find the appropriate images to clearly reflect my feelings about this day.

Happy & Not-So-Happy: Surviving Mother’s Day

First up: To those of you who are celebrating, congrats on being/having/being and having an awesome Mom. Me posting this up? It doesn’t mean that I don’t think that there are awesome Moms out there. It only means that I no longer have a relationship with the woman who gave birth to me, and today is not an easy day for that reason. But for anyone else feeling that way, I want you to know that you’re not alone.

I am Woman! I Build the Stuff!

Not that you have to be a man or a woman to build stuff. You just have to give it a go!

I’ve been flirting with the idea of creating videos, but I wasn’t really keen on the cost of the equipment – the first bit of which being a camera mount that points down at the desk.

But then I found this handy tutorial for a DIY overhead camera mount.

Then I made one.

I don’t know that I’m going to make a ‘thing’ of doing videos (especially considering my lack of keeping up here) – one more reason to do this as cheaply as possible. Still, I am kind of proud of myself.

Zine Ninja didn’t really appreciate being my model while I tested a few things, but he didn’t complain. He’s good like that.

Now if I can just sort out the lighting…

So Here’s The Thing…

electrocardiogram-36732_640

This past weekend, I thought I was having a heart attack. My heart was thudding in my chest up to 125 beats a minute, my jaw hurt, I felt dizzy – and that was all while I was lying in bed. I didn’t go to emergency until the next day (after the chemist sent me to a doctor who sent me to emergency). People say a lot of crap about public medical, but they had me through an EKG, x-ray and in a bed with an IV in my arm in no time.

They gave me something to put under my tongue to take care of the chest pain. The fact the little pill worked implied that something was, in fact, wrong with my heart, but all the tests came back clean but for one that implied I had a virus of some sort running amok.

I got to go home the same day and am scheduled for more than a few ‘fun’ tests to assess whether there’s actually anything wrong with my ticker.

So that’s what I’ve been up to. Not that you came here to read what I’ve been up to. Time for a zine review!

Crowdfunding Zines?

I recently had the pleasurable experience (sarcasm) of buying ink for my printer. After the experience of posting out DA3 to everyone (not that I am complaining!), I began to think about how I crowdfunded my last two novels. With the help of friends and strangers, I was able to pay for everything from the cover art to the print copies.

I’d never thought about doing it for zines mostly because zines (my zines) don’t cost as much to produce as novels (my novels) do. Looking at Kickstarter, it looks like zine are a ‘done’ thing in crowdfunding.

So, quick question:

How do you feel about crowdfunding zines?
