International Zine Month 2018 – Day 23 – A Whole New Distro

Hello and happy Tuesday, zine friends! It is Tuesday, right? Haha. I’ve been deep into transaction fees, listing fees, processing fees, and all sorts in various online marketplaces.

I am happy to say that I was able to jump in on today’s prompt (though to be honest I did a couple days early) and now have something lovely to look forward to after all the work.

Yesterday’s prompt:

Order zines from a different zine distro

I ordered from Natalie Michelle Watson – https://www.nataliemichellewatson.com

Technically it’s a shop rather than a distro, but I’m still counting it. I have been looking forward to checking out Natalie’s ‘Drongo’ since I first saw it. Now it’s just a few days away! Eee!

Have you ordered from a different distro (or shop!)? Let me know where you’ve ordered from!

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 21 & 22 – Zine Library Days!

Hello, zine friends! An ear infection has me running behind, but that just means that you get double the fun today for International Zine Month prompts. Hehe.

Day 21 Prompt:

Zine Library Day! Don’t have one in your area? Why not start one?

I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting a zine library. One zine experience I am lacking – and one that I don’t look like having in my new home state anytime soon. However…

I have the beginnings of a zine library! I’m not claiming to know much about running a real zine library or anything along those lines, but I have a pretty healthy zine collection, and now – thanks to True Zine Marin – I have a set of books about zines to go along with it. ^_^

Do you have a local zine library? Have you started one? I’d love to know more!

Day 22 Prompt:

Send your zine to a zine library

So far in my zine-ing life, I have sent my zines to the zine library that is part of Copy and Destroy. It being local helps with the postage costs. But I do hope to send my zines to more libraries.

However, my list of zine libraries around the world is very lacking! I only know of:

Salford Zine Library (UK)
Richmond Independent Zine Library (US)

I would love to add to the list, so if you know if any zine libraries, please let me know.

Until tomorrow!

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 18 – Zine Trade Day!

Hello, zine friends! Today is another lovely prompt of paying it forward and spreading sunshine.

Today’s prompt is:

Zine Trade Day! Ask someone to trade zines

Just like with free zine day, all you need to do let me know in the comments if you’d like to do a trade. 🙂 I may not be able to trade straight away, but I will soon.

Have a wonderful day!

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 17 – Flyer Flier

Hello, zine friends! Today’s IZM prompt is:

Make a flyer for your zine to trade with others or to send out with zine orders

I have a few fliers that I use for various projects and a few more that I need to make. For today, though, I updated the ones I send out the most.

I like it when people tuck little bits and bobs into what they send. It’s a fun, easy way to let people know about what you’re working on that can be easily passed on.

Do you have fliers? I’d love to see them.

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 16 – Zine Love

Welcome to a brand new week! The prompts keep rolling on, and today we have…

Today’s prompt is:

Make a list of reasons you love zines

Oh, how I love zines. Let me count the ways… Haha. I think I’ve gone on about this a lot here, but there’s nothing wrong with expressing a bit more zine love. These aren’t the only reasons I love zines, but they are the big ones:

*Everyone is Welcome to Make a Zine – You don’t have to be a certain age, in a certain location, at a certain skill level, or anything like that to make a zine. Something to write with and something to write on are pretty much the only general requirements (though some zines don’t have writing!).

*Variety is the Spice of the Zineverse – Just when I think I’ve seen all the ways to make zines, something springs up and surprises me. Different ways of binding, creating, printing… So much fun and variety.

*Zinemakers – There are all types of people no matter where you go, but I have had the pleasure of meeting more supportive and lovely people into zinemaking than any other hobby or community. I could go on all day about the wonderful things I have seen, heard, read about, and personally experienced. I’m grateful for zines and zine people every day.

I’m going to stop myself there because I could keep going and going. I’d love to know what you love about zines. Let me know in the comments or link to your post so I can check it out!

Have a wonderful day.

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 15 – Free Zine Day!

We’re approaching the halfway mark of International Zine Month and have a lovely prompt for this beautiful Sunday.

Today’s prompt is:

Free Zine Day! Give zines away or leave zines in a public place for a stranger to find

Free Zine Day! Woohoo!

I just so happen to have a few spare zines here, and, to celebrate the day, I’m giving them away! All you have to do is comment below and then let me know where to send them. (Either in the comment or you can email me at seagreenzines@gmail.com)

I’ll send them out as I can. 🙂

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 14 – ValenZines Day!

All you need is zine love, la la la lala. Hehe. Hello, zine friends!

Today’s prompt is:

ValenZines Day! Give yourself some zine love in whatever way it means to you (read zines in the tub? Buy some new scissors?)

When I first saw this prompt, I thought about a bubble bath zine reading session or curling up on the recliner. But today the sun is shining, I’m in a lovely mood, and I have plenty of zine-related tasks to tinker with. For me, this is a lovely zine way to spend the day.

What are you up to today?

International Zine Month 2018 – Day 13 – Friday the 13th!

Happy Friday, zine friends! We’re lucky to have an absolutely gorgeous sunny day here in Murray Bridge. It’s easy to forget that it’s…

Friday the 13th!

Today’s prompt is:

Friday the 13th! Make up a zine superstition and share it (skip the 13th issue? Spin 3 times to prevent copier jams or avoid paper cuts?)

Now I haven’t tried this myself, so I can’t speak to whether it works or not, but I have heard of a little zine superstition ritual for zinemakers who make a physical master copy before scanning/copying.

What you need to do is take your master copy and – this is very important – before you do ANY scanning, copying, or even editing, you wait for the next full moon. Just before midnight on the next full moon, you take your master copy outside into the moonlight. Place your master copy in the moonlight on nature in some way. Be it putting it on the grass, a rock, leaves, etc.

At midnight, take three deep breaths and put all of your good wishes and thoughts toward the zine until one minute after midnight. If you do that, then your copying will go smoothly, your binding will stay strong, and your master copy will never go astray.

Or so I hear.

Happy Friday the 13th!
