Happy Mail – Near and Far Edition

Hello! I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to the week. Mind has been a ‘hit the ground running’ type with stacks of errands and appointments. But I am closing in on being fully caught up with my outgoing mail, and Asimov is ‘so far so good’ after the surgery. Next check up in a week.

Happy mail! It’s so lovely to open the post box and see something inside.

rebecca-sheedy-happy-mail

The first bit of happy mail (near) comes from Rebecca, who made the very cool Mild Scribblings 5 and 6. I am soooo happy to get my hands on more of Rebecca’s work.

billy-da-bunny-happy-mail

The next bit of happy mail comes from Billy! Billy really treats me too nicely and doesn’t wait for me to sent things back. When he’s ready to send, he sends! And my life is all the nicer for it. So excited to dive into these.

That’s all for me today. The race continues on as work still needs to be done! To each and all – have a wonderful week!

Happy Mail – The Brazil Edition!

Happy mail! After sending out a huge stack of mail this morning, this was such a lovely surprise – and all the way from Brazil!

happy-mail-from-henry-jaepelt

Henry and I have chatted a bit about zines, and he asked if he could send along a couple of his zines. (Yes, please!) It took three weeks on the dot, but they have arrived here safe and sound!

The really fun thing about these comic zines is that they are in Portuguese, and I have no idea how to read Portuguese. I think it’s a great and fun way to find out just how much can be translated through images alone. (Of course, in the letter, Henry was happy to offer his help in translation if I need it.)

I’m so happy! This has really shone some sunshine on my day and put a spring in my step.

I hope everyone out there is having a wonderful start to the week. If not, I hope it gets better in a hurry!

Happy Mail Monday – Good News Edition

Have you ever had a period time where you kept on getting bad news over and over again so much that when good news finally came, you didn’t know how to react to it?

Yep, that’s been my weekend and week so far. Wowza.

I have some happy mail making my post box exciting over the past week. So many zines! But first, a postcard from Mexico!

happy-mail-postcard-from-mexico

I was a smidge puzzled to be getting something Christmassy in February, but happy mail is happy mail! This one came from SendSomething.net – definitely worth checking out.

mailing-delays

But check out that sending date, eh? 😉

happy-mail-from-rebecca

Ziiiines! See this? This is a prime example of why I keep track of my happy mail. The note says ‘as promised’ but my brain has melted to a point where I don’t remember the promise being made. I’ll be investigating later. For now, thank you!

send-something-happy-mail

This bit of happy mail just goes to show that you never know what kindness or when kindness will come back to you. Months and months ago, I was going through my things and found some friendship books. I don’t really ‘do’ those anymore, but I wasn’t going to toss them. So I went onto SendSomething, found people who liked FBs, and sent them out. Lo and behold, a big ol’ stack of zines comes my way months later! Possibly a new snail mail friend, too?

I hope everyone is having a great day and having a wonderful start to a wonderful week. Best wishes to you always. Happy mailing!

Happy Mail – RAK Edition

This week, I feel very… grateful. I am always grateful for people taking the time and postage to send me things, but this week, I am especially so.

I’ve been struggling a lot with a depression for a little while now. I’ve been good about staying positive while there has been so much chaos and strain in my personal life, but eventually I just shattered. It all became too much, and I went into that foggy, tired place that claims my mind sometimes.

So when I rocked up to my post box this morning and found this inside, I was at a complete loss as to what it could be.

rak-happy-mail-inside

Someone, I don’t know who, sent me this gorgeous papercrafted envelope, well wishes for Asimov, and a sachet of chai.

And on the inside…

rak-happy-mail

Along with my love for zines, I also have a love for stationery and planner type items. I also really love chai, too, which should give me some clue as to who it is, but I’m stumped.

All I know is that this beautiful gesture means so much more than I can adequately express right now. It makes my heart happy.

I don’t know who you are or if you’ll even see this post, but I want to say thank you nonetheless. Your timing is perfect, to say the least, and I will be sure to pass the RAK spirit on.

Happy Mail – Hot & Bothered Edition

Don’t get any ideas. It’s a toasty one today, currently sitting at 41C/105F here. Blargh.

hot

Lucky for me that I have happy mail to lift my semi-melted spirits!

billys-fuck-trump-club

The first comes from Billy da Bunny, who is starting up a Fuck Trump Club for anyone who feels so inclined. The details are on the postcard, but let me know if you want me to upload a bigger picture to see everything better.

anna-gecko-happy-mail

Next up comes a couple of mini-zines from Anna Gecko! Very cute little zines, plus an absolutely lovely note to go along with it. (I wasn’t sure if it was okay to share the note, so I kept it hidden.) Anna is a new friend who doesn’t have a lot of access to zines, so it’s great to connect.

microcosm-publishing-mail

Last but not least, a whopping package from Microcosm Publishing. I must admit I’m a smidge nervous, as Xerography Debt #40 contains a review of Don’t Call Me Cupcake 1-3. Wowza. It is a little funny for someone who reviews zines to be nervous about being reviewed, so we’ll see how it goes.

I have heaps of good reading to do while I hide and try to stay cool in the heat. Many thanks as always to everyone who takes the time and the postage to send me goodness. I hope you’re keeping cool (or warm) wherever you are. Here’s to a wonderful week ahead!

Happy Mail – Totoro Style!

Happy mail! There’s nothing like some happy mail to brighten a rainy day (even if it’s a welcome rain after a few brain-melting hot days).

fishspit-happy-mail

This happy mail comes from the one and only king of mail art collage: Fishspit.

Fishspit knows I have such a soft spot for adorable things, and he is such a generous pen friend. I’m truly lucky to know him (and not just because of the cute happy mail). I know Fishspit is going through a rough time right now, so to receive happy mail from him right now makes me feel even luckier to be his friend.

And just for the Totoro fans out there…

totoro-pen

So cute! This top will actually come off the pen for continued use even after the pen runs out of ink. I love it so much!

Many, many thanks to Fishspit.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

First Happy Mail of 2017!

I think I need to stop making assumptions. About anything. I assumed the post box would be a hollow, echo-y cave for the next week or two (post Christmas mail is sooooo slow). Lo and behold!

kayla-rosen-happy-mail

Happy mail from Kayla Rosen!

Kayla actually emailed me and let me have my pick of one zine – and boy was that hard to choose. I am so happy, though, because this is definitely a zine I could do well with reading right now. Kayla puts it best:

In my experience, affirmations are most powerful when they also acknowledge how unpleasant reality can be. I want affirmations that can meet me in the pit of hopelessness and despair to lift me up a little, not ones that ask me to wish or believe my way out.

So ready to dive in.

I hope everyone is having an awesome week!

Happy Mail – Boxing Day Edition

Happy mail!

I hope you all have had a good weekend independent of celebratory or familial status. I spent most of the weekend having a great time with planning for a bigger, better, even more organised 2017. (Yep, organising is a good time for me.) Plus, this is the year when, pending everything going well, SeaGreenZines will be moving base! I’m looking forward to having a ‘forever’ base of operations.

Anyway, enough about that. Time for the mail!

billy-happy-mail

Forgive the camera lens cover. No, Billy didn’t send me one. (Though I could use a spare.) When the ‘cover’ of your zine is also part of your zine, I get a little bit nervous about showing all the goods. Haha. 😉

Billy has been going through a bit of a rough time of late, so if you can, give him a bit of extra support in whatever way speaks to you. That he’s sent me this from all the way in the States makes me feel very, very lucky.

happy-mail-from-emma

Sweet surprise mail – with zines! Squee! Emma from Puddle Side Musings took me completely by surprise with this unexpected letter and ziiiines! Pieces just so happens to be one of my favourite zine series, so I’m extra extra thankful for the lovely surprise. (That’s not to say that Ker-Bloom isn’t awesome too, of course!)

queer-content-happy-mail

Sneaky last minute local mail! Wolfram-J VK of Queer Content fame snuck in on the last day the post office is open for four days. I wasn’t expecting anything, really, but there it was! It’s my very first issue of Queer Content, so I’m very, very excited. Plus, Victoria and Queensland seem to have this weird delay with mail (seriously, I’ve had things from the States arrive faster), so it’s a relief as well to see this safe and sound.

That’s all the happy mail for this week. Sending you all wonderous, happy vibes for the silly season and the new year to come!

Happy Mail! – Holiday Mail Crush Edition

20150420_152338

I worry about mail getting to its destination at the best of times, but this time of year – the holiday mail crush – I am extra anxious. Honestly, I didn’t expect to get any happy mail this month thanks to the slow down. Yeah, that’s a bit of an extreme assumption, but that’s how my anxiety works.

So when I have received these beauties in the mail, I’ve wanted to say, “I’m so glad you made it here okay!”

I didn’t because they’re not actually alive or anything…

Ahem.

Moving on!

chris-happy-mail

Happy mail from Chris! Chris writes books as well as zines, and it’s fun to write to a fellow author.

penpal-happy-mail

A lovely letter and stamp set from a fairly new pen friend from SendSomething.net. If you want to send out a lot of mail but don’t know where to start, I definitely recommend SendSomething. It’s very simple and easy to use.

fishspit-happy-mail

Fishspit happy mail! I must admit that I was hanging out a bit for this one, as I knew it had to be coming soon. Fishspit continues to send lovely things wrapped up in very cool envelope art. Plus a copy of the latest Wiseblood!

tiny-kitty

How cute is this tiny cat? This is definitely going next to my tiny green cat and my tiny hamster. 🙂

my-neighbour-totoro-pouch

My Neighbour Totoro coin purse! I absolutely adore pretty much all things Miyazaki. His movies are some of my favourites, but there isn’t exactly a lot of memorabilia around where I live. Thank you so much!

I hope you are all having a lovely week full of lots of happy mail and staying warm or cool depending on where you live. You’re amazing!

Happy Mail!

I nearly called this sneezy happy mail. Wanderer and Skunk are kicking up plenty of dust getting the yard sorted for the rental inspection (groan) later this week.

There has been all kinds of colourful happy mail brightening up my post box this week.

new-zine-friend-happy-mail

This zine is about Carrie’s reaction to the US Presidential election. This was part of the ZineWriMo groove, and she was kind enough to do a trade with me.

property-zine-happy-mail

Woo! My copy of Property Zine has arrived – and I’m in it! I haven’t submitted anything to a zine for ages (shame shame), and they accepted an art submission from me. I’m so excited. Not only that, they also included the actual page I’m on separately as well. Love it.

dystatic-happy-mail

Dystatic mail! Dystatic is from Canada and sends the most colourful mail. This envelope of goodness even included a few snowflakes, just in case Australia’s warm December had me forgetting what it’s like to live in a winter wonderland.

I’ve definitely not forgotten.

The holiday mail crush is well and truly on. I tried to mail out everything I needed to early, so I’m hoping everything has arrived. If not, please be patient. Things don’t usually calm down fully until the first part of January.

Thank you so much for sharing this bit of mail goodness with me. More to come!
