Hi guys. I’m currently in the midst of putting together a zine called ‘The Doomsday Book’. It focuses on the cult movie Times Square (1980) and it’s main star Robin Johnson. It’ll be a one-off effort, A5, and B&W. My main goal is to have this ready to go at least a month before Robin’s next birthday (May 30th) as I will be sending a copy to her via a relative of hers.

I’m basically looking to include other people’s personal experiences in regards to the movie, the impact it’s had on your life etc. Poems and artwork are also welcome. I don’t want to push the deadline back any further than the end of April, so please contact me ASAP if you have any interest in this project. Also, feel free to ask me any questions.

I’ll include the movie in a youtube link for those of you who have no idea what I’m referring to (and I’m sure there’s plenty of you).

This is a call for submissions about a zine dealing with Grief & Death called: “Falling Apart”

Looking for contributors. Submissions can be written pieces (500 to 700 words), art, drawings, poetry, cartoons, comic strips, etc.

Submissions should be about someone you know who has died: parent, sibling, significant other, child, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, mentor, close friend, etc.

Can be queer focused or not, atheist, deal with religion,spirituality, disability, mental illness, oppression, isolation, grief groups, abandonment, community, therapy, solitude…..

How are you dealing with your grief over their death? Who were they? How did they die?

Am accepting submissions until January 15th, 2015 and as compensation, each contributor will receive a free copy of the zine upon completion.

The zine will be posted on Tumblr (like And I Get To Tend The Rabbits! was) and put up to be downloaded for free online.

At badhouse we think that there’s a lot more we could all be doing as writers to be more social, more inclusive, and more supportive of each other’s art, so we’ll be encouraging all contributors to get in contact with one another, and ultimately we’re going to try and build a real community around this zine and any others we put out in the future.

To honour this, the theme of this first zine will be “community”. You can interpret this however you like. You can write about how communities can be positive, broken, shallow. You could send a photograph of a community. You can be abstract or literal. You can ignore the theme altogether if your work is exceptional enough!

If you make it, we want to see it! Poems, short stories, essays, visual art — whatever! If it can be printed, submit it!

So if you want to get to know some fellow writers, be there to help badhouse take its first steps, and if you’ve got something relevant lying around or have the time to put something relevant together, send it over to contact.badhouse@gmail.com

Submissions will close on January 9th, and we aim to have the zine out there by late January/early February.

Basically, you’re right in the 1 – 500 words range, but shorter is better. BUT, this zine is about expression, and I don’t want to force anyone to clamp down on their passion just for me. I’m flexible.

Paper lanterns symbolize brightness and love. Paper Lantern literary zine is zine whose mission is to illuminate the world and allow it to discover that there are some remarkable ideas and dreams squirming around the hearts and minds of some talented thinkers and artists.
